Boeing has now delivered the first of its Orca extra-large unmanned undersea vehicles, or XLUUVs, to the U.S. Navy.
The company stated in a tweet,
“More than a decade of pioneering work went into developing Orca, a new class of autonomous submarine that can perform long-duration critical missions in contested and changing waters”
Delivery of the submarine drone has been delayed by several years, in part due to differences between Orca and its prototype as well as the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The delivery came after Boeing and the US Navy conducted several phases of at-sea testing, including maneuvering above and below the surface

,1,The US has reached a crucial milestone.
According to the Missile Defense Agency., the Defense Department’s advanced missile tracking satellites logged their first views of a hypersonic flight test.
Hypersonic and Ballistic Tracking Space Sensor (HBTSS) satellites were able to track a hypersonic system.
MDA didn’t disclose the date of the flight, which took off from Wallops Island in Virginia.
The agency said in a June 14 statement, “Initial reports show the sensors successfully collected data after launch. MDA will continue to assess flight data over the next several weeks.”
Viewers may note, that the Missile Defense Agency (MDA) and Space Development Agency (SDA) are actively working on components of a hypersonic missile defense system to protect against hypersonic weapons and other emerging missile threats. This includes developing the tracking and transport layers of the Proliferated Warfighter Space Architecture (PWSA) and various interceptor programs.

,1,The U.S. Army's new Precision Strike Missile (PrSM) short-range ballistic missile has successfully been used against a moving target at sea for the first time as part of Valiant Shield 24.
On June 16, two PrSM missiles were launched during SINKEX from the Army's Autonomous Multi-Domain Launcher (AML) in Palau, Micronesia.
This marked the first time the PrSM and AML were deployed outside the United States, according to the Army. The systems were operated by the Army’s 3rd Multi-Domain Task Force (3MDTF) and the 1-181 Artillery Regiment of the Tennessee National Guard.
Valiant Shield 24, a multinational field training exercise held from June 7-18, took place in Guam, the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, Palau, and the surrounding sea in the Mariana Island Range Complex. According to the U.S. Navy, the exercise focused on integrating interoperability in a multi-domain environment, with joint forces collaborating to detect, locate, track, and engage units at sea.
The target for the SINKEX maneuvers was the decommissioned Austin-class amphibious transport dock ex-USS Cleveland (LPD-7), positioned in the North Pacific Ocean about 75 km (45 miles) from the nearest land.

The Yasen-M class nuclear-powered cruise missile submarine Kazan along with Project 22350 frigate Admiral Gorshkov sailed to the Cuban capital Havana supported by heavy ocean-going tug Nikolai Chiker and the Project 23130 replenishment oiler Academic Pashin.
This was a major show of force but may have cost Russia.
After the Kazan showed up in Cuba, and the euphoria of “how close we are to the USA”, Russian experts began to realize that joy was turning to sadness. The Russian site Top War calls this a major mistake, saying, “Americans are already laughing at us.”
