The roar of jet engines echoed through the streets of Britain's capital as Flight Lieutenant Alan Pollock pushed his aircraft to its limits. Below him, the Thames snaked through the city, its waters reflecting the morning sun. Pedestrians stopped in their tracks, heads turning skyward at the thunderous sound of a military jet flying near street level.
He had already broken every rule in the book - abandoned his squadron, flown without authorization, and descended to dangerous altitudes over one of the world's busiest cities. He knew this flight would end his career, but he didn't care - some messages must be sent at any cost.
As he rounded the river bend at 700 miles per hour, a colossal structure loomed ahead through the morning haze, its gothic towers piercing the sky. His hands tightened on the controls as an irresistible idea formed: [QUOTE] "I'd forgotten it was there! Until this very instant I'd had absolutely no idea that Tower Bridge would be there. It was easy enough to fly over it, but the idea of flying through the spans suddenly struck me."

U.N. Assistant Secretary General for Political Affairs Miroslav Jenca also expressed deep concern about the slow progress on Haiti's roadmap for restoring democratic institutions after a coalition of gangs continue to cement its hold over the country, particularly in the capital Port-au-Prince.
This High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Turk this week warned that the population in Haiti's capital was practically being held hostage as gangs now control all the main roads in and out of the area. Sherwin Bryce-Pease reports that the United States and Ecuador have now expressed a readiness to proceed with a formal request for recommendations from the Secretary General for re-deploying a fully-fledged peacekeeping operation to Haiti.

His pugnacity in the ring would transfer to his work with the unions, the Labour Party, and to the top of British government.
Born in North Wales in 1938 and raised in Yorkshire and Cheshire, John Leslie Prescott joined the Merchant Navy after failing the 11+ and leaving school at 15.
He was a member of the National Union of Seamen and was heavily involved in the national strike of 1966.
He became Labour MP for Kingston upon Hull East in the 1970 election. Although he was from the traditional socialist wing of the party, in the early 90s he became an enthusiastic backer of the New Labour project. First helping then-leader John Smith to ditch the union block vote in favour of ‘one member, one vote’. And then, after Smith’s sudden death in 1994, Prescott was elected as deputy Labour leader with Tony Blair securing the top job.
The two men could not have been more different. Whilst the smooth-talking Blair was the man to relay the New Labour message, the unvarnished Prescott rolled into towns on his battle bus to rally traditional Labour supporters.

Arguments about God, whether based on science, philosophy, theology or personal experience are always fascinating. Those arguments should push and be pushed in order to consider the possible existence of a Creator. We must also consider defeaters of God. For all arguments for and against God, we should explore their assumptions, logic and boundaries.

I Thank You is a 1941 black and white British comedy film directed by Marcel Varnel and starring Arthur Askey, Richard Murdoch, Graham Moffatt and Moore Marriott.[1] It was produced by Edward Black at Gainsborough Pictures.[2] The title of the film is the literal version of Arthur Askey's famous catch-phrase which he idiosyncratically pronounced as "Ay-thang-yaw".
Synopsis
In London during the Second World War at the time of the Blitz, Arthur and Stinker are a couple of out-of-work variety entertainers who use great ingenuity in their efforts to get financial assistance to "put on a show". Hoping to put their proposal to the formidable Lady Randall, a former music hall star, they infiltrate her house, with Stinker in the guise of a servant and Arthur (in drag) as a cook. After some farcical events, they achieve their aim when Lady Randall is persuaded to sing an old music hall favourite "Waiting at the Church" at an impromptu show located underground at Aldwych tube station, being used during the war as an underground bomb shelter.
