In a surprising move, former Republican Representative Liz Cheney and her father, former Vice President Dick Cheney, announced they would be voting for Kamala Harris. Liz Cheney made the statement during a speech at the Texas Tribune Festival, expressing concern over Donald Trump’s threat to democracy. She claimed that her father believes Trump is the most dangerous individual in American history, a sentiment echoed by Cheney herself in recent interviews.
In response, Tulsi Gabbard, a US Army Reserve officer, criticized Dick Cheney for his role in the Iraq War, pointing out the devastation it caused in the Middle East, the rise of ISIS, and his support for controversial torture practices. Gabbard questioned whether Cheney's opinions should be taken seriously, given his controversial legacy.
Liz Cheney also urged anti-Trump Republicans to actively vote for Harris rather than staying out of the election, citing the close nature of the upcoming election. In the lead-up to the presidential debate, Harris has been intensely preparing. According to reports, she has been practicing with a Trump impersonator to sharpen her debating skills. Fox News reported that Harris’s preparation involves simulating the debate stage with lights and props, underscoring how seriously she is taking the event. Harris also made some last-minute adjustments to her campaign, adding a policy page to her website. The policies are intended to address key issues such as lowering taxes for the middle class, reducing energy costs, and providing support for small businesses, although the specifics remain vague.
Beyond the political drama, attention has shifted to other major news stories. Elon Musk recently announced that humans could be on Mars by 2028. His ambitious plan involves launching an unmanned mission in two years, followed by a manned mission if successful. Musk’s ultimate goal is to create a self-sustaining city on Mars within the next 20 years, claiming this would safeguard humanity by expanding beyond Earth.
Meanwhile, domestic issues continue to stir controversy. In Springfield, Ohio, residents are grappling with the arrival of 150,000 Haitian immigrants. Reports claim that some Haitians have resorted to trapping and killing local pets for food, sparking outrage in the community. The Biden-Harris administration’s immigration policies have been blamed for the crisis, with locals questioning the government’s ability to handle the influx.
These political and social developments have only heightened tensions as the nation approaches the upcoming election and debate. As the stakes grow, figures like Liz Cheney, Kamala Harris, and even Elon Musk are playing pivotal roles in shaping the future of the country and beyond.

On Thursday, two Sinaloa cartel leaders, Joaquin Guzman Lopez and Ismael “El Mayo” Zambada, were arrested in the United States. Guzman Lopez, son of notorious cartel boss Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman, orchestrated their arrest by luring Zambada to the US under the pretense of examining land in Mexico.
Upon landing in El Paso, Texas, federal agents arrested them. This operation, exploiting a rift within the cartel, marks a significant victory for US law enforcement.
The Sinaloa cartel is a major narcotics trafficking organization responsible for smuggling large quantities of drugs into the US.
The arrests, hailed by DEA Administrator Anne Milgram, target the cartel’s core operations, especially its fentanyl and methamphetamine networks.
Experts predict increased violence within the cartel following Zambada’s capture.
Despite skepticism from HSI agents, the operation went smoothly. Zambada pled not guilty and is held without bond on multiple charges, CNN has reported.

Minnesota is set to enter a new era of transportation with the implementation of the “Jetsons law” on August 1.
This legislation officially defines a “roadable aircraft” as a vehicle capable of both flying and driving on public highways.
The law streamlines the registration process for these dual-purpose vehicles, allowing them to use tail numbers instead of traditional license plates.
While on the road, these flying cars will be regulated like regular vehicles, but must adhere to Federal Aviation Administration rules when in flight.
They are prohibited from taking off directly from roads. Minnesota is the second state to adopt such regulations, following New Hampshire, the U.S. Sun has reported.

A study in Nature Astronomy reveals that China’s Chang’e-5 lunar probe detected trace amounts of water in moon soil samples.
These findings, from a higher lunar latitude, suggest water may persist on the moon as hydrated salts.
The Chang’e-5 mission, which returned to Earth in 2020, was the first lunar sample collection in 40 years, following the Chang’e-4’s 2019 landing on the far side of the moon, Phys.org has reported.
