MSNBC stars Rachel Maddow, Chris Jansing and Katy Tur joined a tense 10 a.m. meeting at 30 Rock in Midtown led by NBCUniversal chairman Mark Lazarus, who will lead the new company, sources told The Post.
Staffers fearing looming layoffs peppered him with questions about if the network will need to change its name, logos and headquarters after reports surfaced that the new entity could be cut off from the reporting muscle of NBC News, sources said.

,1,Jurors in the Karen Read trial said that they can’t come to an agreement over whether the ex college professor murdered her cop boyfriend.
The jurors – six men and six women – wrote a note Monday morning on their fifth day of deliberations telling a judge they haven’t been able to reach a unanimous verdict.
The jurors first told the judge on Friday morning that they couldn’t agree.
At the time, Norfolk County Superior Court Judge Beverly Cannone found the panelists hadn’t been at it long enough to declare a mistrial and instructed them to return to deliberations.

,1,Iran is threatening an “obliterating war” if Israel launches an all-out conflict against Hezbollah in Lebanon.
The thunderous warning came after the Israel Defense Forces hit several Hezbollah targets Friday in retaliation to the Iran-backed terror group’s barrage of rockets launched on northern Israel earlier in the day.
“Should [Israel] embark on full-scale military aggression, an obliterating war will ensue,” the Iranian UN mission said in a post on X late Friday.

,1,Armored vehicles rammed the doors of Bolivia’s government palace Wednesday in an apparent coup attempt against President Luis Arce, but he vowed to stand firm and named a new army commander who ordered troops to stand down.
The soldiers later pulled back as supporters of Arce waved Bolivian flags and cheered in a central square.
In a video of Arce surrounded by ministers in the palace, the Bolivian leader said: “Here we are, firm in Casa Grande, to confront any coup attempt. We need the Bolivian people to organize.”
Arce confronted the general commander of the army — Juan José Zúñiga, who appeared to be leading the rebellion — in the palace hallway, as shown on video on Bolivian television. “I am your captain, and I order you to withdraw your soldiers, and I will not allow this insubordination,” Arce said.

The two-term congresswoman defeated five GOP rivals in the 4th District primary and held 43.8% of the vote when the Associated Press called the contest in her favor.
Boebert, 37, is expected to prevail in the 4th District general election in November as well. Voters in the Centennial State’s 4th District supported former President Donald Trump by a 16-point margin in 2020.

,1,The Rapidan Dam near Mankato, Minnesota, risked “imminent failure” after flooding rain swelled the Blue Earth River, officials warned on Monday, June 24.
Footage captured by Brandon Knudsvig from a helicopter shows the dam, as water flows around it. Knudsvig said there was also “debris jammed at the top.”
“Praying this dam holds and everyone is safe,” he wrote on Facebook.
The Blue Earth County Sheriff’s Office said on June 24 there had been “a partial failure on the west abutment”. However, the dam was “still intact,” they said, and there were “no current plans for a mass evacuation.”
Gov Tim Walz said emergency management officials were “acting quickly to ensure the safety of Minnesotans as the situation develops.”

,1,Donald Trump accused President Biden on Tuesday of rewarding “sham marriages” at the expense of military veterans “dying on the street,” as he ripped his 2024 opponent’s new executive order.
During a campaign rally in Racine, Wis., Trump slammed the 81-year-old president’s plan to speed up work permits for non-citizens who graduate from US colleges and allow certain undocumented immigrants to apply for lawful permanent residency if they are married to Americans.
The former president called the plan a “lawless executive action” that will grant “mass amnesty to millions of illegal aliens.”
“All an illegal alien has to do is sign up for his new program – it’s a sham marriage or college degree – and they can expect amnesty and taxpayer support,” the presumptive Republican nominee for president said.

,1,Conspiracy theorist Alex Jones let out a bizarre war cry and sobbed uncontrollably as he claimed the feds were trying to shutter his Infowars platform.
The 50-year-old host let the bellowing, 10-second scream rip after alleging — without evidence — that his site was under attack by federal authorities planning to raid his Austin, Texas, studio.
A wild clip of the moment during a so-called emergency broadcast showed Jones clenching both his fists and screaming until his face turned a dark shade of red.
Just seconds before, the host had declared, “It’s my resistance to them … as a human under attack.”

,1,The end is nigh but the savings are high.
A popular survivalist TikToker has gone viral with 4.3 million views after sharing a video on Costco’s bulk-sized emergency food offerings that store meals for about a month and a half.
Now end-times conspiracists — who’ve likely had their bell rung by the latest grim resetting of the J. Robert Oppenheimer-inspired “Doomsday Clock” — are skeptical that influencer Krystal Christensen (@charminglyfrugal) is privy to apocalyptic intel.
Christensen showed off the survival-savvy Ready Wise brand emergency food kit that provides 132 pasta meals for just $63.99 before cutting over to more items like Mountain House freeze dried ice cream sandwiches that sell in six-packs for $9.97.

,1,Northern Ireland’s government was restored on Saturday exactly two years to the day it collapsed.
The assembly returned to the parliament in Belfast where its top order of business was to name the Sinn Féin Irish nationalist party’s Michelle O’Neill as first minister, marking a historic shift for the UK-controlled country.
O’Neill is the party’s first-ever first minister and her appointment is considered symbolic for Irish nationalism.
“This is a day of historic change,” O’Neill posted on X on Saturday. “As a First Minister for all, I am determined to work together with all parties to deliver for workers, families and all our communities,” she added.
The recall came after a deal that ended the pro-British Democratic Unionist Party’s two year-boycott over Brexit trade rules.

,1,Megyn Kelly said she can’t figure out why people she normally agrees with are promoting “bizarre” conspiracy theories about Taylor Swift. NY Post reporter Ariel Zilber shares this story.
Swift, whose already immense star power has been magnified by her romance with NFL star Travis Kelce, has been targeted by Republicans over her allegiance to the Democratic Party.
Some Donald Trump supporters have floated theories claiming that the “Shake It Off” singer could be “a front for a covert political agenda” that was cooked up by the Pentagon in order to get President Biden re-elected.
Others have pondered whether Swift was manipulated by liberal billionaire financier George Soros into becoming an activist Democrat.
“Literally, people believe this. People on the right who I like and respect are pushing this,” Kelly said during Wednesday’s episode of her SiriusXM podcast “The Megyn Kelly Show.”

,1,Illegal drugs were reportedly found in toxicology reports from the three Kansas City Chiefs fans who were found frozen to death outside a friend’s home last month, according to Fox 4 KC.
Family members of David Harrington, Clayton McGeeney and Ricky Johnson had been anxiously awaiting the results of the report to offer clues as to what happened to the three friends before they were discovered outside Jordan Willis’ Kansas City rental home on Jan. 9.
Drug use has been speculated as a contributing factor in their deaths. Willis checked himself into rehab for substance abuse after his three friends were found dead, according to his parents.
Harrington, 37, McGeeney, 36, and Johnson, 38, went to his home to watch the Kansas City Chiefs’ final regular season game on Jan. 7.
Their bodies were found two days later when McGeeney’s worried fiancée broke into Willis’ property and saw one of them frozen in the yard.

,1,Three US service members were killed and 25 others wounded in a drone attack Saturday night in northeast Jordan near the Syrian border — a major escalation in already dangerously rising Mideast tensions.
The air assault was carried out against a small American outpost in Jordan and marked the first time US troops have been killed by enemy fire in the Middle East since conflict erupted in the region after Hamas’ Oct. 7 terrorist attack on Israel.
“While we are still gathering the facts of this attack, we know it was carried out by radical Iran-backed militant groups operating in Syria and Iran,” President Biden said in a statement — adding that the troops were killed by a “despicable and wholly unjust attack.

,1,The wife of killer Kenneth Eugene Smith reportedly cried out as he thrashed against his restraints during the 22 minutes it took for him to become the first person in the US put to death by nitrogen gas — which his victim’s son said marked his mom finally getting “justice” 36 years after her murder.
Eugene Smith — who previously survived a botched execution day — appeared to remain conscious for several minutes Thursday as he was made to inhale the toxic gas through a mask, depriving him his body of oxygen until he suffocated at the Holman Prison in Atmore, Ala.
As the killer pushed against his restraints, his wife, Deanna — wearing a “Never Alone” T-shirt — cried out for him from the witness box, according to reporters at the scene.
She was joined by other family members to witness the execution, which took about 22 minutes — far more than the family had been told it would take, according to the family’s spiritual adviser, Jeff Hood.
Hood called it the “worst thing” he’d ever seen — claiming even prison officials “were visibly surprised at how bad this thing went.”

,1,Deepfakes have arrived at the New Hampshire primary.
Ahead of Tuesday’s vote, Granite State Democrats are receiving messages from a voice purporting to be President Biden warning them not to go to the polls.
“What a bunch of malarkey,” the recorded message from “Biden” begins, according to NBC News, before telling recipients to “save your vote for the November election.”
“Voting this Tuesday only enables the Republicans in their quest to elect Donald Trump again. Your vote makes a difference in November, not this Tuesday,” the voice says, according to the outlet.
The call ends with a redirect to former New Hampshire Democratic Party Chairwoman Kathy Sullivan, who is running a super PAC dedicated to telling voters to write in Biden’s name on the ballot on Tuesday.

,1,A suspected Ukrainian drone attack caused a fire at a Russian Baltic Sea terminal belonging to Novatek, forcing it to suspend some operations. Reuters was unable to confirm the cause of the blaze.
Novatek, Russia's largest liquefied natural gas producer, said on Sunday it had suspended some operations there blaming "external influence."
The Ust-Luga complex is on the Gulf of Finland, about 110 miles west of St. Petersburg.
The Interfax-Ukraine news agency, citing unnamed sources, said the fire was the result of a special operation carried out by Ukraine's security services.
It said fuel refined there is supplied to Russian troops.
Reuters couldn't confirm the cause of the fire.
Russian news outlet Shot said local residents heard a drone operating nearby followed by several explosions.
Alexander Drozdenko, the Leningrad region's governor, said on the Telegram messaging app there were no casualties and all workers were safely evacuated.
Russia and Ukraine have targeted each other's energy infrastructure in strikes aiming to disrupt supply lines and logistics in the nearly two-year-old war.

,1,A New Zealand couple successfully demanded a refund from Qantas Airways after claiming they sat in a passenger’s urine for a lengthy international flight.
“Now we know that we have been sitting in urine for a 10-hour trip,” one of the unidentified travelers, from Wellington, said while describing the moment of realization to the New Zealand Herald.
The revolting incident unfolded on Dec. 30 as the two Kiwis flew from Bangkok, Thailand, to Sydney, Australia, en route to their motherland.
Their flight went awry when one of them placed his Qantas pillow and other belongings underneath the seat in front of them.
When the aforementioned flyer retrieved his pillow, it was reportedly damp — as was their duty-free bag with $70 worth of items, a headphone case, and a portable neck pillow.
Initially chalking the wetness up to spilled water, the couple stored some of their items in the overhead bin and enlisted the cabin crew to replace their soggy pillow.
“We called an attendant who was confused and took the pillow away,” said the couple, who eventually realized that the source of the moisture was far more nauseating.

The latest food trend to take over TikTok is “rat snacking” — eating small and random snacks with sometimes odd combinations as a guilty pleasure.
As opposed to the appetizer course-inspired girl dinner — which looks like putting a plate together of some leftover slices of deli meat, fruit, cheese and crackers, rather than making a three-square meal — rat snacks are “unhinged” combinations of foods to make just one small treat.

,1,TikTokers, gonna burn this godd–n house right down!
Rich Gen Zers are being accused of being tone-deaf as they dance around their mansions and show off their extravagant stays as the “Saltburn” TikTok trend takes off.
“Saltburn,” the movie everyone seems to be talking about, follows dorky Oliver Quick (Barry Keoghan) as he begins Oxford University in 2006 and befriends the fabulously rich Felix Catton (Jacob Elordi), who invites him to stay the summer with his family at their extravagant estate, the film’s namesake.

,1,The last thing a teenager wants is to pose for a family photo, but often parents force their Gen Z children to pose for a snap anyway. NY Post Features Reporter Brooke Kato shares this story.
Cue: the “nose cover.”
The Zoomer generation is covering the middle of their mugs with their hands in an attempt to keep their faces out of the picture while still (sort of) appeasing their parents.
Venezuela Fury, the daughter of boxer Tyson Fury, and her cousin, Valentino, have been captured shielding their faces from the camera on more than one occasion lately, raising a question for the uninitiated: Why?
“After several attempts to snatch the perfect Christmas family photo, I turned to my teen and finally asked him, ‘Why?'” parent Michelle Harris told the Sun.

,1,Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu slammed allegations of genocide in Gaza as nothing more than “hypocrisy” on Thursday as South Africa brought a case against the Jewish State at the World Court.
Netanyahu is the latest Israeli official to criticize the International Court of Justice hearing being held in Hauge, South Africa, where members of the World Court are hearing the case against the Jewish State’s war in Gaza and the civilian cost.
The Israeli leader accused South Africa of “brazen gall” for representing the “monsters” of Hamas by bringing the allegations to court.
“A terrorist organization carried out the worst crime against the Jewish People since the Holocaust, and now someone comes to defend it in the name of the Holocaust,” Netanyahu said in a statement. “What brazen gall. The world is upside down.”
Netanyahu added: “South Africa’s hypocrisy screams to the high Heavens. Where was South Africa when millions of people were being murdered and uprooted from their homes in Syria and Yemen, by whom? By Hamas’s partners.

,1,Agents at the Transportation Security Administration stopped a record 6,737 guns at airport checkpoints last year — 93% of which were loaded.
The number is an uptick from the 6,542 firearms stopped in 2022, and the 5,972 guns that were intercepted at security checkpoints in 2021, according to TSA.
“We are still seeing far too many firearms at TSA checkpoints, and what’s particularly concerning is the amount of them loaded, presenting an unnecessary risk to everyone at the TSA checkpoint,” TSA Administrator David Pekoske said.
The 2023 record-breaking haul follows a concerning trend: the number of guns intercepted by officers has tripled over the last decade, according to an analysis by Forbes.
TSA officials blame the uptick on the rise of permitless carry laws, which are now in place in 28 states.

,1,Meghan Markle, 42, is not part of a texting group chat with the rest of her former “Suits” co-stars, Gina Torres revealed ahead of a cast reunion at Sunday night’s 2024 Golden Globes.
While walking the red carpet outside the Beverly Hilton hotel in Beverly Hills, Torres, 54, who co-starred in “Suits” as Jessica Pearson (and got a short-lived “Suits” spinoff, “Pearson”), told Variety, “Our text thread is insane right now, so it’s very exciting.”
But when a reporter asked which member of the “Suits” cast texted Markle, she said, “We don’t have her number. We just don’t.”
The cast of “Suits” will have a mini-reunion at the Golden Globes, because series stars Gabriel Macht and Patrick J. Adams are both presenters at the star-studded ceremony.

,1,The Federal Aviation Administration on Saturday ordered some Boeing 737 MAX 9 planes out of the air temporarily after a panel blew out during an Alaska Airlines flight Friday evening, prompting an emergency landing.
“The FAA will order the temporary grounding of certain Boeing 737 MAX 9 aircraft operated by U.S. airlines or in U.S. territory,” the agency posted on X Saturday.
The grounding involves about 171 planes globally.
The FAA said its Emergency Airworthiness Directive “will require operators to inspect aircraft before further flight.” The required examinations take four to eight hours per aircraft, the order said.
The FAA’s order came less than 24 hours after a side panel on an Alaska Airlines MAX 9 blew off mid-flight, forcing the Ontario, California-bound plane to reverse course for an emergency landing in Portland.

,1,The day before the third anniversary of the January 6, 2021 attack on the U.S Capitol, U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland on Friday (January 5) called the event an "unprecedented attack on the cornerstone of our system of government."
"Since the January 6 attack, the Justice Department has engaged in what has become one of the largest and most complex and resource intensive investigations in our history," Garland added.
Thousands of Trump supporters attacked the U.S Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, in a bid to stop formal certification of the Republican president's election defeat, causing millions of dollars in damage.
Four people died on the day of the attack, and one Capitol Police officer who fought against the rioters died the next day. Four officers have since taken their own lives and 140 others were injured.

,1,House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) led 64 fellow Republicans on a visit to the besieged southern border Wednesday to amplify their call for an immediate crackdown on illegal immigration.
Speaking in Eagle Pass, Texas, Johnson told reporters the nation’s increasingly porous perimeter has empowered cartels, imperiled migrants and left the country vulnerable to terrorist infiltration.
“One thing is absolutely clear,” he said. “America is at a breaking point with record levels of illegal immigration.”
Johnson squarely blamed President Joe Biden and Homeland Security chief Alejandro Mayorkas for record-breaking rates of illegal border crossers, calling the situation a rapidly unfolding “catastrophe.”
“The situation here and in other parts of the country is truly unconscionable,” Johnson said after visiting migrant processing centers and conferring with local residents and law enforcement officials. “We would describe it as both heartbreaking and infuriating.”

,1,The presidents of Russia and Ukraine took starkly different approaches to their New Year’s Eve speeches late Sunday as their nations rang in yet another new year under war.
As Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky gave a lengthy, poetic speech uplifting his country’s strength and unity in the face of terror, Russia’s Vladimir Putin gave no mention to the brutal war he launched nearly two years ago that’s so far killed or injured about a half-million troops.
“The year 2023 is coming to an end. Another year of our independence, another year of our fight for independence, another year of war,” Zelensky said. “War for our land, for our freedom, for each other.”
While Zelensky mentioned the words “war” or “warrior” 19 times throughout his address, Putin refused to even the terms in his speech, apparently opting instead for warm-fuzzies.
“I would like to convey my very best wishes for the new year to all Russian families. After all, the history of our huge, wonderful, and beloved Motherland is made up of the history of each family,” he said, adding, “We are one country, one big family.”
“Happy New Year, friends! Happy 2024!” he added.
The disturbingly cheerful message from a wartime president came the same day Russia’s new law making more men eligible for the military draft went into effect.
Russia’s lower house of parliament voted last July to raise the age for conscripts from 27 to 30 as Putin’s troops have seen casualties by the hundreds of thousands.
Though Putin made no mention of the new change to draft requirements, he took a moment to address Russia’s military, who he claimed were “displaying the main traits of the Russian people – solidarity, mercy, fortitude.”
“Everyone who is on duty, who is on the front lines fighting for truth and justice, you are our heroes,” he said. “Our hearts are with you. We are proud of you and we admire your courage.”

,1,At least 24 civilians across Ukraine were killed and at least 130 people were injured when Russian forces launched their largest aerial attack Friday morning, hitting six cities between Lviv in the west and Kharkiv in the east.
An unknown number of civilians remain trapped under the rubble after missiles struck shopping centers, apartment complexes, schools, and even a maternity ward.
Photos and videos posted online showed streets covered in ash and debris from the attacks, as buildings burned.
A ball of fire was even seen descending on a residential building, leaving it in flames as a plume of black smoke rose into the sky.
In total, Russian forces fired more than 150 missiles and drones at Ukrainian targets in an 18-hour-long exercise.

,1,A member of Israel’s war cabinet warned on Wednesday that the diplomatic “hourglass” was running out for Lebanon as the nation has failed to stop Hezbollah from firing rockets across the border.
Israeli government minister Benny Gantz derided the barrage from the Lebanese border — raising new fears of a second front of the war opening on Israel’s northern border.
“The hourglass for a political settlement is running out,” Gantz told reporters.
“If the world and Lebanon’s government will not work to stop the shooting at Israel and to distance Hezbollah from the border, the IDF (Israel Defense Forces) will do so.”
Hezbollah, a heavily militarized terrorist organization, holds a strong grip over southern Lebanon and began firing rockets into Israel a day after Hamas’ deadly October 7 attack.

,1,Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu visited the country’s troops fighting in northern Gaza on Monday as he was briefed on Hamas’ operations “in the heart of civilian areas.”
During his latest visit near the frontlines of the war, Netanyahu touted the Israeli army’s successes in Gaza, where Israel’s troops have decimated nearly all of the Hamas terrorists’ northern battalions.
In video uploaded by the prime minister’s office, Netanyahu is seen arriving in Gaza in a helicopter and being driven to where the troops were stationed.
He was seen shaking hands and speaking with the soldiers, assuring them that the military will work to keep them safe and reiterating that the war will not come to an end until Hamas is eradicated.
“First thing — we will do everything to keep you safe,” Netanyahu said. “Secondly, we are not stopping. Anyone who talks about stopping — no."
“We’re not stopping. This war is going to go until the end. Until we finish them. No less than that,” he added.

,1,A drone launched from Iran struck a chemical tanker in the Indian ocean early on Saturday, the U.S. Department of Defense said.
Iran's navy showed off its new cruise missiles on Sunday (December 24), amid growing tensions on the region.
This footage from Iranian state television comes a day after the U.S. Department of Defense claimed that a drone launched from Iran had struck a chemical tanker in the Indian ocean early on Saturday (December 23).
That was the seventh Iranian attack on commercial shipping since 2021, the Pentagon statement said.
There were no casualties as a result of the attack and a brief fire on board the tanker was extinguished.
A spokesperson for the Iranian delegation at the United Nations did not respond to a request for comment.
The incident highlights escalating regional tensions and a new risk to shipping lanes.
That's in the wake of the Oct. 7 Hamas attack on Israel and Israel's subsequent bombardment of Gaza.
Iran on Saturday denied U.S. accusations that it was involved in planning attacks by Yemen's Tehran-aligned Houthi movement on commercial vessels in the Red Sea.

,1,The co-founder of a San Francisco tech company is accused of forcing his former assistant to sign a depraved “slave contract” — subjecting her to years of “unwanted sexual horror.”
Tradeshift co-founder Christian Lanng allegedly forced his ex-employee to sign the contract just months after hiring her as his executive assistant, according to a lawsuit filed Thursday.
The woman, identified in the court documents only as Jane Doe, claims Lanng then raped and abused her for years. The software company is also named in the suit.
Lanng’s torture involved “inflicting physical pain on her by various means, urinating on her and routinely penetrating her person with foreign objects,” according to the lawsuit, which was first reported by the Mercury News.
The shocking allegations came to light after the disgraced executive was fired as CEO earlier this year for “gross misconduct on multiple grounds” after management learned about “serious allegations of sexual assault and harassment” against him.
