The US and UK have launched a third wave of strikes against 36 Houthi targets across Yemen. Footage circulating on social media apparently shows the impact of some of the strikes.
The US and UK say they are attempting to stop the Houthis attacking commercial ships travelling through the Red Sea. The Houthis claim they are only targeting ships linked to Israel, but many ships without any link have also been attacked.
On Friday there was a mass rally in Sanaa, Yemen’s Houthi controlled capital city, in support of Hamas in Gaza. The crowd chanted the Houthi slogan in Arabic: “God is great, death to America, death to Israel, curse on Jews, victory to Islam”.
The US and UK deny that this third round of strikes represents an escalation in hostilities. But it’s unclear if any of the strikes so far have had the intended effect of deterring the Houthis. And with the US also having launched strikes against Iran backed militants in Syria and Iraq on Friday there are concerns that further escalation may now become unavoidable.

The attack killed at least 12 civilians and injured more than 20 people, according to the White Helmets.
Meanwhile, Syrian and Russian jets continued to launch deadly strikes in the northwest of Syria on Monday, as Syrian rebels steadily advance through the country after seizing the second largest city, Aleppo.
The Syrian army and Russia denied attacking civilians and said they had targeted insurgent hideouts located mostly in Hama and Idlib.

Standing for over 860 years, the landmark has weathered revolutions, world wars, and the fall of empires - but was critically damaged in a fire in 2019.
Now, the cathedral will welcome visitors again, with France’s President Emmanuel Macron marking the milestone with a visit.

His pugnacity in the ring would transfer to his work with the unions, the Labour Party, and to the top of British government.
Born in North Wales in 1938 and raised in Yorkshire and Cheshire, John Leslie Prescott joined the Merchant Navy after failing the 11+ and leaving school at 15.
He was a member of the National Union of Seamen and was heavily involved in the national strike of 1966.
He became Labour MP for Kingston upon Hull East in the 1970 election. Although he was from the traditional socialist wing of the party, in the early 90s he became an enthusiastic backer of the New Labour project. First helping then-leader John Smith to ditch the union block vote in favour of ‘one member, one vote’. And then, after Smith’s sudden death in 1994, Prescott was elected as deputy Labour leader with Tony Blair securing the top job.
The two men could not have been more different. Whilst the smooth-talking Blair was the man to relay the New Labour message, the unvarnished Prescott rolled into towns on his battle bus to rally traditional Labour supporters.

,1,Tensions in Paris have risen after Marine Le Pen's far-right National Rally party secured a strong lead in the first round of France’s parliamentary elections.
They gained a 33.14% share of the vote, nearly double what they achieved in the first round two years ago.
Thousands of left wing supporters gathered in Paris' Republique plaza on Sunday to protest the results.
Individuals set off fireworks in the plaza and in the streets of the capital.
Some voiced their concerns about the first round outcome, fearing that the country is moving towards extremism.

,1,President Joe Biden has moved to address concerns over his rambling performance in his debate with ex-President Donald Trump. Biden conceded at a rally Friday in North Carolina that he's not the debater he used to be, while members of his party and campaign team closed ranks around him in an effort to shut down talk of replacing him with another nominee. Biden's meandering answers and struggles to respond to Trump prompted The New York Times to declare that he should exit the race altogether.
Meanwhile Donald Trump piled on the pressure over Joe Biden's debate performance during a Virginia rally, suggesting it could be “a big moment” in the campaign.

A British traveller told the Herald Sun she cancelled her stay at the Nana Backpacker Hostel after news a dozen people had been poisoned, including the tragic death of two Australian women Holly Bowles and Bianca Jones.
The British traveller claims staff in the town swept the incident under the rug and Laos authorities have since banned the sale and consumption of Tiger Vodka and Tiger Whisky.

,1,Wikileaks co-founder Julian Assange will plead guilty to leaking US national security secrets and return to his home country of Australia, under a deal with the Justice Department that ends an almost 15-year battle over his prosecution.
Assange, 52, is expected to be sentenced to the more than five years he already served in a UK prison during an in-person court appearance Wednesday in Saipan, in the US Northern Mariana Islands, avoiding a potentially lengthy sentence in the US.
The plea agreement seeks to end an international fight to prosecute Assange that has been underway since sensitive US military documents, war logs and diplomatic cables were publicly leaked in 2010 and 2011, including footage of a US airstrike in Baghdad a few years earlier.
