,1,Lewis Hamilton, the seven-time Formula 1 world champion, will leave Mercedes at the end of the 2024 season after agreeing a multi-year deal with Ferrari.
Having only signed a new 2 year contract in August last year and pledging to end his career with the struggling team, Mercedes confirmed that the 39-year-old had activated a release clause in his contract and would be departing for the Italian giants at the end of the 2024 season.
Hamilton said in a statement: “Making the decision to leave was one of the hardest decisions I have ever had to make. But the time is right for me to take this step and I’m excited to be taking on a new challenge.”
The Scuderia will be hoping that Formula 1's most successful driver will lead the world’s most successful Formula 1 team to its first drivers title since 2007
