Pro-Putin NATO Member Surprises Allies & Zelensky With Aid Move But There's A Catch

In a surprising turnaround, Slovakia has announced a new aid package for Ukraine, marking its first support initiative since Prime Minister Robert Fico’s return to power. The move, unveiled on October 6 at the DFNC3 Defense Forum in Kyiv, includes Bozena demining vehicles, engineering tools, and medical evacuation equipment, but notably no weapons or ammunition. The announcement comes nearly a year after Fico halted all military aid to Ukraine, scrapping a $45 million package that included missiles and artillery shells. His government has been criticized for its pro-Russia stance, close energy ties with Moscow, and opposition to Ukraine’s NATO membership. Analysts say the latest move reflects mixed signals from Bratislava, seeking to balance its EU and NATO commitments with domestic pro-Russian sentiment. While the aid is non-lethal, it marks a symbolic shift in Slovakia’s cautious approach to the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war. Add Hindustan Times as your preferred source on Google.
