But recent events such as Russia's invasion of Ukraine, China's more aggressive actions towards Taiwan, and Iran's nuclear ambitions have relegated counterterrorism to secondary concern. This lecture will assess the ongoing threat of terrorism, U.S. counterterrorist efforts, the repercussions of America's withdrawal from Afghanistan, and the Biden Administration's "over-the-horizon" counterterrorism strategy.

,1,As China and Russia “creep” further into the western hemisphere and many Latin American nations reject President Biden’s regional strategy, the Bush School’s Mosbacher Institute hosted a panel discussion on Thursday, March 30, 2023, to unpack the nature of this threat and to recommend the best public policy responses.
The Mosbacher Institute’s lecture, “Assessing Chinese and Russian Influence in Latin America and the Caribbean,” featured Latin American experts Dr. Evan Ellis, Latin American Research Professor at the U.S. Army War College Strategic Studies Institute, and Mr. Juan Cruz, Senior Advisor to the Americas Program at the Center for Strategic and International Studies. Bush School Assistant Professor Aileen Teague moderated the discussion about the current state of superpower rivalries in the western hemisphere and what steps Washington should be taking to remedy the challenge.
,1,On March 29, the Scowcroft Institute of International Affairs hosted Dr. Stephen Kotkin as he dove into the Soviet Union's victory in World War II and its relevance to contemporary conflicts. He examined topics such as the importance of strong leadership in times of crisis, the use of propaganda and disinformation, and the role of international alliances and diplomacy in resolving conflicts.
,1,Dr. Sumin Lee is an ACES Assistant Professor in the Department of International Affairs and an ACES (Accountability, Climate, Equity, and Scholarship) Faculty Fellow with the Bush School of Government and Public Service. Dr. Lee’s research interests include gender and armed conflicts, conflict-related sexual violence, and gender justice process using various empirical methods such as geospatial analysis, text analysis, and panel data analysis.
