The Russian navy on Sunday fired warning shots at, and boarded a cargo vessel in the Black Sea.
According to Russia's defense ministry one if its patrol vessels fired on the Palau-flagged Sukru Okan ship after its captain failed to respond to a request to search for weapons.
Moscow claims that the ship was headed to the Ukrainian port of Izmail although data shows the ship was on its way to the Romanian port of Sulina.
Moscow has previously said that it considers all ships heading toward Ukrainian waters to be potentially carrying weapons.
The cargo ship was allowed to continue after the inspection.
It's the first time Russia has fired on merchant ships beyond Ukraine since it refused to renew a UN-brokered grain deal in July.

And finally a man from Florida has broken the record, for the longest time spent, living underwater without depressurization.
Joseph Dituri, who also goes by "Dr. Deep Sea" set the new best of 74 days on Sunday in an undersea lodge located nine meters below the surface in Key Largo in Florida.
The lodge does not use technology to adjust for increased underwater pressure, unlike a submarine.
Dituri's accomplishment beats the previous record of 73 days, two hours, and 34 minutes, set in 2014 at the same location.
But "Dr. Deep Sea" is not done yet.
He plans to stay until June 9th, which will see him reach 100 days as part of a research project dubbed Project Neptune 100.

For a look at the news from around the world, we now turn to our Matthew Ashley joining us here in studio. Good morning.
Good morning.
Let's start in the U.S. as a special counsel has been appointed to look into President Joe Biden's alleged retention of classified documents.
That's right on Thursday, former federal prosecutor, Robert Hur was appointed by Attorney General Merrick Garland to look into whether the secret documents were removed and retained without authorization. The appointment came moments after the White House announced that another batch of secret papers were discovered at the U.S. leader's private residence in Delaware in December last year. It follows Monday's announcement that ten classified documents were found at a private office in Washington in November, which was formerly used by Biden.
In both cases the White House says the President has cooperated with the National Archives and Department of Justice.
According to the White House the documents were (quote) 'inadvertently displaced'.
The documents discovered relate to Biden's time as vice president during the Obama administration.

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has urged Pyongyang to return to dialogue amid increasing pessimism over the possibility.
Speaking at a Security Council meeting on Thursday local time, the UN chief said the onus is on North Korea to comply with its international obligations and return to the negotiation table.
Guterres added that the unlawful nuclear weapons program pursued by the regime is a clear and present danger, driving risks and geopolitical tensions to new heights.
On the same day, White House Indo-Pacific coordinator, Kurt Campbell said that the North is on a provocative path and appears to be disinterested in diplomacy not only with the U.S. but also with South Korea and Japan.

It's time for Global Insight where we speak to experts around the world on issues making headlines.
U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi set off Sunday for her first Asia trip with stopovers in Singapore, Malaysia, South Korea and Japan.
The details of her trip have not been released,... along with whether or not she will visit Taiwan during her time in the region.
Amid growing tension between Washington and Beijing over the Taiwan strait,... Chinese officials have reacted with explosive anger over the possibility of Pelosi visiting Taipei.
Along with sharp warnings against such a move, China's naval forces conducted exercises in waters near Taiwan just hours before the U.S. lawmaker was due to arrive in the region.
What's behind Pelosi's Asia visit and how will it affect the Asia Pacific region?
We discuss this today with Jeff Moon, President of China Moon Strategies, LLC and former Assistant U.S. Trade Representative for China;
and Kim Jae-chun, Professor and Dean of Sogang Graduate School of International Studies.
1. Jeff Moon: Nancy Pelosi set off for the Asia Pacific on Sunday though details of her trip are still largely unknown. What do you think is bringing her to the region?
2. Professor Kim: Why was Pelosi's visit to Taiwan being discussed at this time, and how would her visit affect the U.S.-China relationship?
3. Jeff Moon: Biden and Xi spoke last week and seemed to have spent much of their two-hour phone call disagreeing about Taiwan, and it doesn't sound like they made much progress on resolving their trade dispute. Is it still significant that they had this call?
4. Professor Kim: UK National Security Adviser Sir Stephen Lovegrove says there is an absence of safeguards to prevent nuclear war with China. Is there such a possibility of an accidental war, and do you think the U.S. and China will take steps to cool things down?
5. Jeff Moon: Some believe U.S. sanctions on China should be rolled back amid high inflation and energy cost for the American economy. What's your view on this?
6. Professor Kim: As U.S.-China tensions continue, there's growing pressure on South Korea, most notably on its semiconductor trade in recent weeks. With Samsung's 17 billion dollar investment and SK's extra $22 billion pledged last week, would you say South Korea is already moving to join the Chip 4 alliance?
7. Jeff Moon: As U.S.-China tensions continue, there's growing pressure on South Korea, most notably on its semiconductor trade in recent weeks. The U.S. reportedly gave Seoul a deadline on deciding whether to join Chip 4 or not. How would the alliance realistically move its supply chains and safeguard their revenue while pulling away from the Chinese market?
8. Jeff Moon: What does 'friend-shoring' mean for South Korean firms? What opportunities lie ahead?
9. Professor Kim: Beijing is warning Seoul not to move closer to the U.S., security-wise and on the semiconductor front too. How should South Korea's decision makers in foreign policy navigate through this geopolitical tension?
That's where we must leave it, Jeff Moon, President of China Moon Strategies, LLC and former Assistant U.S. Trade Representative for China;
and Kim Jae-chun, Professor and Dean of Sogang Graduate School of International Studies, thank you for joining us today.

Amid reports that U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is planning a visit to Taiwan in the coming weeks,... China has delivered a stern warning to Washington about the consequences of such a visit.
Kim Hyo-sun has more.
China has warned the U.S. that it was getting seriously prepared for the possibility of a visit by Washington's House Speaker Nancy Pelosi to Taiwan next month.
"Suppose the U.S. side clings obstinately to its misconduct, China is bound to take resolute and powerful measures to safeguard its national sovereignty and territorial integrity. All consequences entailing from that should be completely borne by the United States."
Coinciding with Beijing's strong rhetoric,... Taiwan staged air raid drills on Monday,... while its military was mobilized for routine defense exercises.
While there was no direct link between China's renewed threats and Taiwan's defensive moves,... they do point to increased tensions in the region,... considered a potential hotspot for conflict.
Pelosi has not yet confirmed when, or even if, she will visit.
If the visit does take place,... it would be the first trip in 25 years by a Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives to Taipei.
An earlier visit, planned for April was cancelled due to COVID-19.
Amid these developments,... President Joe Biden said Monday that he still expects to speak with Chinese President Xi Jinping this week.
He told reporters that the expected call will take place by the end of this week.
This comes as Xi sent a message last week wishing Biden a speedy recovery from COVID-19.

Amid global efforts to procure clean and renewable sources of energy,... Korean researchers have developed a catalyst system that can increase the efficiency and reduce the costs of hydrogen production.
Our Park Se-young has more.
Shining light at the beaker of water creates hydrogen bubbles.
The film-like solid catalyst developed by Korean researchers uses regular light to convert water into hydrogen.
The catalyst turns black during the reaction and then returns to its original white color, ...which means it can be reused multiple times.
"We observed that hydrogen was created for a period of 48 hours in light. Hydrogen output stayed the same, so we believe the technology can be used for a long time without the catalyst losing performance."
Under good lighting, a gram of the material used in the catalyst can create 30 milligrams of hydrogen per hour.
The new catalyst is 50 percent more efficient than existing systems.
And because it's made of copper instead of expensive platinum, it is much more cost-effective.
Also, retrieving hydrogen from water using light does not produce any harmful byproducts.
"At present, most hydrogen is made through a methane reformation technique. This is energy-intensive and generates a lot of byproducts like greenhouse gases. The new technology only produces hydrogen."
The global market size for hydrogen was estimated to have surpassed 115 billion U.S. dollars in 2017.
With further research, the scientists expect the new technology to contribute to the industrial level production of the new energy source.
