However, because she was Jewish, the Nazi regime robbed her of a chance to compete at the 1936 Summer Olympic Games in Berlin by excluding her from the national team. She immigrated to the United States in 1937, vowing to never return to Germany. This profile was broadcast by NBC in 1996 during its coverage of the Summer Olympic Games in Atlanta.
