North Korea “fully supports” Russia’s war in Ukraine, Kim told Putin, who in turn thanked his host for his “consistent and unwavering support” after a warm greeting on the red carpet laid out for Putin’s arrival. It is the Russian leader’s first visit to North Korea for 24 years.
The pair will spend the day together in ceremonial events and face-to-face discussions in the course of which they are expected to sign a “comprehensive strategic partnership treaty”. It will formalise a friendship that has already resulted in North Korean munitions being fired by Russian troops on the battlefields of Ukraine.

A packed room of House Republicans sang Happy Birthday to Donald Trump, who turns 78 on Friday, as he visited Capitol Hill for the first time since the rampage by a mob of his supporters after the 2020 election.
Trump set out his re-election plans to separate meetings of representatives and senators at a private venue near Congress, shunned by the remaining handful of members who oppose his return as their presidential candidate. Most of those who have stood up to Trump have been purged or resigned, creating a party of loyalists in Washington eager for his return in his rematch with Joe Biden in November.

,1,Donald Trump won New Hampshire's Republican presidential primary election on Tuesday (January 23), Edison Research projected, moving closer to a likely November rematch with Democratic President Joe Biden even as his only remaining rival, former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley, vowed to soldier on.
"This race is far from over," she told her supporters at a primary night party in Concord.
With 25% of the expected vote tallied, according to Edison, Trump had 55.0% compared with 43.5% for Haley, who had hoped the Northeastern state's sizable cadre of independent voters would carry her to an upset win that might loosen Trump's iron grip on the Republican Party.

,1,Donald Trump has arrived in Miami as he prepares to become the first former US president in history to face federal criminal charges in court.
Accused of wilfully retaining classified documents containing national security secrets, including details of nuclear programmes, Trump faces a potential sentence of decades behind bars if convicted.
The sudden departure of two lawyers who had been working on the case led to a last-minute scramble to find defence attorneys registered with the Southern District of Florida Bar as required by the court, it was reported last night.
Trump’s extremely aggressive personal attacks on Jack Smith, the special counsel who compiled the 37 criminal charges, combined with the former president’s long history of run-ins with his own lawyers, were complicating the last-minute recruitment attempted, the Washington Post reported.
Trump will go before the US District Judge Aileen Cannon, a public servant he appointed himself, who was criticised for her handling of his civil case earlier this year, which challenged the FBI’s raid of Mar-a-Lago and the seizure of the documents now at the centre of the charges.
