The Story of a True American Hero: Louis Zamperini

,For forty-seven days Louis Zamperini drifted idly in the Pacific Ocean. Armed with a few small tins of drinking water, a flare gun, some fishing line, and a couple of Hershey D-Ration candy bars, Zamperini and two other soldiers struggled to stay alive. Their struggle was exacerbated by vicious sharks, blistering heat, treacherous swells, and Japanese fighter pilots. For most people, this experience would undoubtedly be the most challenging of their lives. For Zamperini, it was not even the most difficult of the war. Louis Zamperini was always exceptional. After getting into trouble as a child, Zamperini found an outlet in track and field. In a time when the four-minute mile was one of the most elusive goals in sports, Zamperini pushed the limits. Zamperini set the national high school record for the mile in 1934 with a time of 4:21.3. He was offered a scholarship to the University of Southern California and began training for the 1936 Olympics. At the Berlin Olympics, Zamperini finished eighth in the 5000-meter race, but ran the fastest final lap of all the competitors in an unprecedented 56 seconds. His final push even grabbed the attention of Adolf Hitler who personally congratulated Zamperini after the race. Zamperini turned his attention to the 1940 Olympics. By early 1940, Zamperini had dropped his mile time to 4:07.9. Yet as Zamperini came closer to the four-minute mile, the United States came closer to war. There would be no Olympics in 1940. Zamperini was forced to forego running for a career in the military. He joined the Army Air Corps in November 1941 and was trained as a bombardier. Zamperini flew in B-24s in the Pacific War Theater and went on a number of bombing raids. In May 1943, Zamperini went out on a mission to search for a missing plane when his plane had trouble of its own. Zamperini and the crew went down; eight men died on impact, three survived. Zamperini and the surviving crewmembers, Francis “Mac” MacNamara and Russell Allen “Phil” Phillips, were in dire straits. They quickly ran out of food and drinkable water. They passed the time by telling stories and pretending to cook meals. About thirty-three days into their survival, Mac passed away. The two surviving crew members faced typhoon sized waves, angry sharks, and were shot at by Japanese pilots. Their bullet-riddled raft, faded from the blistering sun, barely supported their emaciated bodies. Finally, on July 15, the two men were picked up by Japanese soldiers. To say they were saved would be inaccurate. Zamperini and Phillips were modestly nursed back to health before they were transferred to a prisoner of war camp. The Japanese POW camps were notoriously cruel. Over one-third of all allied POWs died in the camps and the Japanese had plans to kill all POWs by the war’s end. Zamperini was separated from Phillips and transferred to a number of different camps throughout the war. Always on the brink of starvation, Zamperini was treated especially cruelly because of his running fame. Zamperini was forced to clean up the latrines, shovel coal, and was beaten relentlessly. Due to the harsh treatment, cold weather, and severe malnutrition, Zamperini developed beriberi, a deadly disease caused by vitamin deficiency. He was on the brink of death. On August 6, 1945 the United States dropped an atomic bomb on Hiroshima. Less than a month later Japan surrendered. Allied planes began dropping food, cigarettes, and news of victory to the famished POWs. Zamperini gradually regained his health and celebrated with his peers. He was officially released on September 5, 1945, more than two years after his plane crash. By that time the United States had declared Zamperini dead and his parents had received his Purple Heart “posthumously.” Most of his family and friends had long assumed he had died. The few that held out hope were still amazed to see Zamperini walk through the door on October 5, 1945. Throughout his life Zamperini physically pushed his body to the limit. Yet it is truly his passion for life and mental vitality that continues to impress people around the world. His story is the inspiration for the bestselling book, Unbroken and now a major motion picture by the same name. Zamperini passed away in July of 2014; he was 97 years old. THANKS FOR WATCHING! ,Democrats try to destroy America Our forefathers proclaimed in the Declaration of Independence that we have certain inalienable rights, those being the right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Most of us are probably not aware that over the past 48 years over 63 million future citizens of America have been denied their inalienable right to life. Compare that to the 6 million Jews murdered by the Nazis during the holocaust of World War II. America’s holocaust exceeds that by ten times. Let’s look at the events under which that was allowed to occur. During the 60s and 70s the radical left of the Democrat Party had accomplices in the liberal majority of the Supreme Court. They realized that the Court could be persuaded to advance their liberal agenda when they were able, with the help of the ACLU, to have it ignore and nullify our Constitutional rights of freedom of speech and freedom of religion by removing prayer from schools. A decade later, emboldened by their previous success, they convinced the Court to pass a law approving abortion with the passage of Roe v. Wade based on a “right to privacy” which is found nowhere in the Constitution. In these two rulings the Court in the first case struck down two of our most sacred rights and in the second case created a right that did not exist. As a result these two rulings America has lost its moral compass. The “pro-choice” supporters of Roe v. Wade, in an effort to remove themselves from the stigma of unfettered abortions, now claim that it is a matter of women’s health. It is difficult for me to believe that over the past 48 years, 63 million women have suffered life threatening complications that have required them to terminate their pregnancies. Roe v. Wade is not a matter of women’s health, it’s a matter of birth control. Of course the pro-choice contingent rarely considers the choices of adoption or contraception. With the recent passage of the Texas “Heartbeat” bill the socialist Democrat liberals are outraged that they have finally lost their liberal majority in the Supreme Court and while they have a majority in the House and Senate they want to be able to pack the court with more liberals in order to continue to force their liberal socialist agenda on the American people. Big tech, the main street media and the liberal courts have been successful in squelching our freedoms of speech and religion and are now focused on our right to bear arms. In order to accomplish their objective of turning America into their dream of a utopian socialist/communist nation under a tyrannical government, they must first repeal the Second Amendment which was adopted primarily to protect us against a tyrannical government. At that point we will lose our liberty and of course there will be no pursuit of happiness under communism. So much for our unalienable rights. That’s the bad news. The good news is that the vast majority of Americans understand that communism is no utopia, in fact it is just the opposite and we will not submit to it. ,The series of challenges presented to Biden's administration have made the 46th president's inaugural year at the White House a difficult one, having to deal with record inflation, the ongoing COVID pandemic and political division. As Biden calls an end to his first year in office, We looked back over some of the president's failures over the course of the last year. 1) Failed Build Back Better Act President Biden's flagship Build Back Better Act has failed to get passed in law, despite his commitment to pass the bill by Christmas. The Build Back Better Act is a central piece of the administration's objectives and was originally drafted with a budget of $3.5 trillion that included provisions and support for infrastructure and social policies. Eventually, the bill's budget saw itself slashed to $1.75 trillion. 2) Stalled Voting Legislation Other central elements of the Biden administration's agenda for his inaugural year have also met a deadlock. Democrats also failed to pass voting rights legislation, which their Republican counterparts have successfully opposed. This follows the introduction of new voting restrictions in Republican-led states in the aftermath of the 2020 election, and former president Donald Trump's false claims of voter fraud. In order to successfully pass the voting rights legislation, the Biden administration would also have to reform the Senate filibuster, which Manchin has repeatedly opposed. 3) Failure to Cancel Student Debt On the campaign trail, Biden vowed he would cancel at least $10,000 of student loan debt per person in an effort to undo individual burdens the loans imposed. The President has extended the interest-free pause on federal student loan repayments that was introduced amid the pandemic, though the measure is by no means a forgiveness of standing loans. The pause is scheduled to lift in February, and payments will resume. His primary actions on this front are primarily built on existing promises on the topic made by previous administrations. Much debate has been had about the president's authority to personally write off student debts, with certain factions of the Democratic party urging the president to use executive action to resolve the issue. However, Biden himself expressed his doubt towards that approach, and said in April: "I don't think I have the authority", a sentiment echoed by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi. 4) COVID Mismanagement Biden has long been aware of the severity of the COVID pandemic and the need for effective measures to manage the crisis, and in the opening months of his tenure he oversaw a mass vaccination campaign. However the emergence of the Delta variant over the summer and the recent wave of Omicron has stalled Biden's initial progress on the COVID front. The administration's lack of preparation for new variants was reflected in the sharp surge in cases nationwide, as well as in the shortage of testing kits. The surge in infections saw an average of over 750,000 daily new COVID cases reported over the last week, according to data from John Hopkins University. The number of daily COVID deaths has also seen a rise in the past week, with 1,796 deaths reported last Sunday according to John Hopkins data. 5) Record Inflation President Biden's economic accomplishments have been bittersweet. On the one hand, the Biden administration approved a hefty $1.9 trillion COVID relief package and passed a $1.2 trillion bipartisan infrastructure law. Additionally, a record 6.4 million jobs were created which saw unemployment drop to just 3.9 percent last December. On the other hand, national inflation rose to a record 6.8 percent, the highest level in 40 years. This has consistently driven up the prices of basic goods and services such as gas, food and housing. The upshot in prices seen in December represented the sixth consecutive month of price increments. In November, gas prices skyrocketed by 58 percent, the largest increase recorded over a 12-month period since 1980. Rising inflation was also compounded with supply chain shortages and delays, further aggravating the issue for consumers. 6) Immigration Debacles and Remain in Mexico In Biden's opening year in the White House, the issue of migration and the administration's mismanagement at the US-Mexico border has become a constant headache. Biden had vowed to undo many of Trump's heavily criticized immigration policies in a bid to guarantee increased protection and care for asylum-seekers and migrants entering the country. However, his administration's handling of the issue has left a lot to be desired. Despite his campaign trail promises, Biden has reinstated the Trump-era Remain In Mexico program and has also upheld a controversial policy known as Title 42. LIKE and Subscribe!
