After WWII Nazi scientists and their missile technology were quietly brought to America. The most prominent of these was Wernher von Braun, who would become the father of the American space travel program. NASA was careful to keep von Braun's dark past a secret, similar to their current efforts to hide the contamination at the Santa Susana Field Lab.
