About Life Below Zero:
Life Below Zero follows six people as they battle for the most basic necessities in the state with the lowest population density in the United States. Living at the ends of the world's loneliest roads and subsisting off the rugged Alaskan bush, they battle whiteout snow storms, man-eating carnivores, questionable frozen terrain, and limited resources through a long and bitter winter. Some of them are lone wolves; others have their families beside them. All must overcome despairing odds to brave the wild and survive through to the spring. And when spring arrives in Alaska, rising temperatures bring mounting challenges as they work to prepare for yet another winter.

Their enslaved ancestors were smuggled into Alabama in 1860, long after the United States had banned the import of slaves. The smugglers burned the ship to hide their crime, and for more than 150 years, the ship's remains lay on the bottom of the Mobile River. The community of Africatown, founded by slaves brought by the Clotilda, grew up nearby.

The Titanic was a massive cruise ship that was commonly viewed as indestructible. When it began its maiden voyage from Southampton, England, to New York City in 1912, voyagers indulged in some of the most elegant luxuries of the time. But the state-of-the-art safety equipment wasn’t enough to keep the ship afloat after striking a massive iceberg; more than 1,500 people died. Now the infamous ship rests 12,000 feet deep in the Atlantic Ocean, about 400 miles southeast of Newfoundland. This video will reveal some little-known facts from this iconic story that intrigues historians to this day.

,1,It was a grisly sight: a murdered chimpanzee, his body beaten, bloodied—and partially cannibalized—by the community he used to lead. Rare video captures the deadly end to a tale of chimpanzee social politics. Researchers had been observing a group of chimpanzees in Senegal since 2005. They identified one chimp, Foudouko, as the alpha leader. Two years later he fell from power, overthrown by a group of younger males. He lived on the outskirts of the group for years before attempting to return in mid-2013. He was killed by his former followers, a rare instance in which a chimp was killed within its own community.

,1,UPDATE: 11/6/2015 The SETI Institute reports that after observing the star with its Allen Telescope Array for more than two weeks, it has found no clear evidence for a signal in either narrowband transmissions, which might be used as a hailing signal for a society to announce its presence, or broadband signals, which could be "produced by intense microwaves used to propel rockets servicing the megastructure." (By the way, how clever is it that SETI has deduced how we might detect alien rockets in deep space? Pretty cool.) SETI hasn't given up, however. It continues to monitor the star, and scientists hope to use more powerful telescopes in the near future to listen even more closely.
