Sergio Perez had a strong start to the 2022 Formula 1 season, giving team-mate Max Verstappen a hard time in the early stages of the year.
But from the Canadian Grand Prix onwards, things have become more difficult for Perez. He has slipped back into his expected number two role and fallen back in the world championship fight.
Perez says this is because, as he put it, car development is “going away from me”. This has made the car less comfortable for him to drive, while team-mate Max Verstappen has thrived.
So how much have Perez’s performances slipped compared to Verstappen, why has this happened and can Red Bull be blamed for deliberately making life difficult for Perez?

,1,Charles Leclerc’s brief reference to a problem with the throttle in his Ferrari led to wild and unsubstantiated conspiracy theories about his crash out of the lead of the French Grand Prix.
Leclerc threw away a potential win at Paul Ricard when he spun 360 degrees before nosing into the wall at the long Beausset right-hander.
He took the blame for the mistake post-race and was highly critical of himself, but some F1 fans and pundits suggested there was more to the incident than met the eye.

,1,As F1 drivers continue to criticise officials for the way track limits are policed, Glenn Freeman, Scott Mitchell and Edd Straw examine some of the common complaints we hear, to determine if the drivers have a point with any of their arguments.
We also explain how the policing has changed for 2022, and why the Austrian GP last time out and this weekend's upcoming French Grand Prix at Paul Ricard are often two of the worst tracks for this debate to flair up.

,1,After a tough couple of years for Ferrari on the engine front, its 2022 F1 power unit is back among the strongest on the grid. The trouble is, it hasn’t been very reliable.
A litany of Ferrari failures, most recently Carlos Sainz’s fiery’ internal combustion engine failure while on target to finish second in the Austrian Grand Prix, have hit the team hard. And customer teams Alfa Romeo and Haas haven’t been immune from such problems either.
What’s more, Ferrari is ranked lowest with six retirements this season - two for Charles Leclerc and four for the unfortunate Carlos Sainz.
Ferrari’s power unit frailty is a weakness, but it is not as disastrous as you might think given F1’s engine freeze. To understand why, we have to look in detail at how the regulations work.

,1,Audi’s quest to find a Formula 1 entry to take over may be on the brink of a successful ending - with a team that already has an existing manufacturer deal.
Sauber may be swapping Alfa Romeo’s name and colours for a new, German identity in the next few years as Audi eyes joining the F1 grid for 2026, alongside its Volkswagen Group sister company Porsche.
The Alfa Romeo deal has been an important part of Sauber’s revival from its financial nadir in the previous decade - but an Audi buy-in would be a much bigger opportunity.

The latest episode of The Race F1 Podcast concerns the French Grand Prix at Paul Ricard, in which a Charles Leclerc crash opened the door to a Max Verstappen walkover.

They touch upon the double Mercedes podium that came despite the W13’s disappointing pace, and the early verdicts on the major upgrades for McLaren and AlphaTauri.

,1,On November 22, 1963, President John F. Kennedy was assassinated in Dallas, Texas. While most believe Lee Harvey Oswald to have been his killer, many are convinced that Oswald did not act alone. The obvious question arises - What happened? Who else was involved? Why? In this video, let's explore some of the alternative theories to what is considered the truest of them all, and who may have actually killed JFK.
