,1,Somebody called Guinness World Records.
University of South Florida associate professor Joseph Dituri is set to complete a 100-day mission that would break the world record for living underwater this Saturday, May 13. That day will mark 73 days of the mission.
Dituri continues to teach his students online while also studying how the human body reacts to long-term exposure to pressure from an underwater habitat at Jules' Undersea Lodge in Key Largo, the university said in a news release. Also known as Dr. Deep Sea, he's been living there since March 1.

,1,A bill that would limit which bathrooms transgender people can use moved one step closer to Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis' desk.
The Florida House passed a bill that would require people to use the public bathroom of their sex at birth. That would apply to areas like educational institutions, healthcare facilities, or any place deemed public under law including lodging, restaurants or gas stations. The bill is now headed to the Florida Senate.
Lawmakers who approved it said this is about protection and safety. However, advocates from the LGBTQ community said they fear of the bill's repercussions, including 18-year-old Samuel Vanmiddlesworth from the Tampa Bay area.
"I'm not hurting anyone," Middlesworth said. "Trans people aren't hurting anyone by being themselves."
Middlesworth, who identifies as non-binary and transmasculine, said he would be forced to use the women's restroom. A place he hasn't been to in years before his transition, he said.
Vanmiddlesworth said he's afraid enough using the men's restroom due to factors like his appearance and voice, but fears how he'll also be treated under the new bill.
"I feel unwanted in the state I grew up in," Middlesworth said.

,1,Two new bills targeting the trans and LGBTQ community are headed to Governor Ron DeSantis' desk, adding to their growing list of concerns.
One bill keeps kids out of "adult live performances" which critics say targets drag shows. The other restricts access to treatment for trans kids and adults.
The passage by state lawmakers and the looming signature by Gov. Ron DeSantis are driving some people away from the state.

The video then proceeded to "expose" the "myths" surrounding this issue, the so-called "book ban hoax."

The train, which did not have passengers, derailed around 5 p.m. Saturday by State Route 41, near the Clark County Fairgrounds, the Dispatch reported. Springfield is about 46 miles (74 km) west of the state capital of Columbus, Ohio.

,1,Millions of people who enrolled in Medicaid during the COVID-19 pandemic could start to lose their coverage on April 1 under the $1.7 trillion spending package cleared by Congress.
The legislation will sunset a requirement of the COVID-19 public health emergency that prohibited states from booting people off Medicaid. The Biden administration has been under mounting pressure to declare the public health emergency over, with 25 Republican governors asking the president to end it in a letter on Monday, which cited growing concerns about bloated Medicaid enrollment.
“This is a positive for states in terms of planning, however, this will come at the cost of some individuals losing their health care,” said Massey Whorley, a principal at health consulting firm Avalere.
Millions are expected to be bumped from the program, which grants health care coverage to nearly 80 million low-income people throughout the country. The federal government will also wind down extra funds given to states for the added enrollees over the next year under the proposal.

,1,We're coming off a big week in politics and we're gearing up for another.
On Tuesday, Donald Trump is expected to launch his 2024 presidential campaign. The pending announcement has many speculating if and when Florida governor Ron DeSantis will take a run at the White House.
Given his landslide victory on election night and his popularity within the Republican party, many assume it's a matter of time before the 44-year-old Florida governor and Dunedin native announces a presidential campaign.
The crowd was chanting "two more years" and "USA" inside the Tampa Convention Center last Tuesday when DeSantis addressed the crowd saying, "Thank you for honoring us with a win for the ages."
DeSantis stole the national spotlight throughout the pandemic for taking an anti-lockdown approach. In August 2020, he mandated all schools be open for in-person learning, and in August 2021, he banned school districts from enacting face mask mandates. He was sued over both executive orders and won.
DeSantis has since become a household name and grabbed the attention of America, including former President Trump.
"If Donald Trump announces next week that he's in the hunt for the presidency, he's going to come after DeSantis pretty hard because he sees him as his prime competition. If he does that, we will know where DeSantis' head is a little bit as to whether he takes the bait and engages with Trump or whether he chooses number two, to start governing the state," said political analyst Dr. Lars Hafner.

,1,This week in politics…We are down to the wire with less than 5 days until the midterm election. At the top of the ticket in Florida is the race for governor, incumbent Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis vs. Democratic challenger Charlie Crist.
President Joe Biden was here in the Sunshine State this week to campaign for Crist and Democratic Senate Candidate Val Demings, but even with the midterms just days away some folks are already thinking ahead to 2024.
See another president is coming to Florida, former President Donald Trump will be in Miami-Dade Sunday to campaign for Republican Senator Marco Rubio. Someone who won’t be there? Governor Ron DeSantis who’s holding separate campaign events on the Gulf Coast. Interesting.
The dueling events are fueling the flames of talks of a budding rivalry between the two and a potential 2024 matchup, as GOP voters have signaled them as the top choices for the Republican presidential nominee in 2 years.

,1,Hurricane Ian has reached major hurricane status as it begins an approach toward Florida.
The Tampa Bay area is still in Ian's forecast cone, which has prompted many area leaders to brace and prepare for anticipated impacts from the storm. This means several counties have already issued mandatory evacuations for some areas.
Levels A and B in Manatee County are now officially under a mandatory evacuation order following the latest forecasts of Hurricane Ian.
County leaders say residents living in evacuation Level C are "encouraged to find shelter further inland."
It's important to know anyone who lives in a mobile or manufactured home must evacuate when a mandatory order is issued, regardless of if you live in the evacuated zone or not.

,1,A controversial bill that could end up banning some books from public schools has cleared another hurdle in the Florida Senate.
Critics call it homophobic and the legislative equivalent of censorship.
Proponents of Senate Bill 1300 say it’s designed to provide transparency and give parents a bigger say in what materials their children are exposed to, questioning the appropriateness of books and other materials being shown to students in public schools.
“My concern is that some of these materials are not age-appropriate,” said State Sen. Manny Diaz, R-Hialeah. “And forcing these conversations with students that are not age-appropriate.”
